The amended “living wage” bill before the City Council will limit affordable housing, crush efforts to expand food retail in underserved neighborhoods and strain social-service institutions, opponents have written to City Hall. The letter, signed by the Real Estate Board of New York and 10 other business groups, kicks off an opposition campaign in advance of a council hearing on the bill this month. The group also asked bill sponsor Oliver Koppell, D-Bronx, a host of questions. Proponents called it a tactic to extract another city-funded study. “City taxpayers do not want to bankroll any more rigged analysis or pugilistic propaganda,” a spokesman for the NYC Living Wage Coalition said.
